One of the best ways to make FRIENDS and get involved in this community is to…become active in the Friends of the Library Group! There are numerous events and activities that are just simply fun to attend. If you wish to volunteer, just talk with the library staff or one of the Friend’s. They will be glad to help you find the right opportunity. Your volunteer efforts would be greatly appreciated!
Friends Member Benefits
- New members receive (1) used book voucher, good for (1) free used book at any used book sale hosted by the Friends of IPL
- Receive the IPL and Friends monthly e-newsletter, be informed of all that’s happening at the library
- Order plants early at the annual pre-sale plant sale in May
- Friends member only preview of annual used book sale
Contributions by the Friends Include:
Adopt-A-Book
Book donations made in honor of or in memory of friends or loved ones.
Books for Babies
“Read to your baby materials” for post-delivery mothers.
Magazine Drive
Donations to purchase magazines for the library.
Internet Book Sales
Book donations that are of significant value are sold over the Internet with proceeds benefitting the Friends of IPL.
Book Discussion Groups
Purchase of books that are read by participants in the morning and evening book discussion groups.
Story Hour
Materials purchased for Preschool Story Hour, Baby Play Time, and Read to Chaz our wonderful 120 lb. St. Bernard, Therapy Reading Dog.
Additionally, contributions service a variety of library needs such as purchasing furniture, displays, CD and book cases.
Throughout the year we organize many fundraisers and interesting adult and youth activities
Feb or March - Interlochen Arts Academy Concerto Concert. Proceeds from the concert are donated to our children’s reading programs.
May - Mother Daughter Tea, Memorial Day weekend annual plant sale.
June - Annual used book sale, Friends member only preview of annual used book sale.
July and August - Summer reading program for children, teens and adults.
September - Annual Friends of IPL meeting & potluck, featuring a speaker of local interest.
November - Holiday decorating of the library.
December - Children’s holiday party, holiday
